Mrs.Gayatri Devi Vasudev is the Editor of MODERN ASTROLOGY, a monthly, started in 2009 as the successor to THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE founded by Dr.B. V.Raman. THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE closed down in December 2007 following Gayatri Devi Vasudev’s resignation from its Editorship in June 2007. As Editor (January 1999 to July 2007) of THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE, the world’s foremost and most authentic journal on Jyotisha or Indian astrology, and earlier as its Associate Editor, Gayatri Devi Vasudev was actively involved with her father, Founder and the Father of Modern Astrology Dr.B.V.Raman, from 1972 to until his death in December 1998, in his mission to bring astrology into the comity of sciences. She has the unique privilege of being trained by Dr.Raman in his work. She continues his mission. She is also the National Vice-President of the Indian Council of Astrological Sciences founded by Dr.B.V.Raman in 1984 to organise the study and practice of astrology.
Mrs.Gayatri Devi Vasudev’s published forecasts in her editorials in MODERN ASTROLOGY include Narendra Modi’s prime-ministership, the decline of the Congress, the 2014 Lok Sabha results, India’s economy doing better than of most nations following the recession in 2008-2009, the US recession continuing, water-related natural calamities in India, Pakistan and China, the LTTE leader Prabhakaran’s violent end, Mayawati’s setbacks, the July earthquakes in Indonesia, Phillipines, the Labour Party losing power in the 2010 elections in U.K., a bad year for Indian cricket in 2010, the Mangalore aircrash of July 22nd as also earthquakes in different parts of the world.
Her predictions published editorially in THE ASTROLOGICAL MAGAZINE include, among others, the assassination of Indira Gandhi , the election of George Bush (Sr), Benazir Bhutto’s prime-ministership and exit, her abortive role in the new scenario of 2008 in Pakistan, the ” end of the Rajiv era”, the re-election of Bill Clinton, the death of King Hussain of Jordan, Nawaz Sharief’s exit and military rule in Pakistan, the Middle East tensions, Saddam Hussain’s invasion of Kuwait and the war with the MNF, Saddam Hussain’s death on the gallows, the formation and continuance of the BJP-led Government in India, the Kargil war, the prime-ministership of Atal Behari Vajpayee, the prime-ministership eluding Sonia Gandhi, the fire in the Bharatpur arms-depot, violence in Lanka, the Ramakrishna Hegde’s chief-ministership and subsequent loss of power.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev anticipated the terrorist attacks against the US of September 11,200I (The AM., January 2001, page 17) as early as in November 2000 in her annual world predictions. Analysing the lunar new year chart for the USA , she identified the the Mars-Rahu opposition on September 13, 2001 as resulting in a national disaster. To quote from the editorial:-.
“The retrogression of Mars in Scorpio warns against developments rousing the ire of the Arab world against the United States…” and further down “ at least on two occasions, diabolic fundamentalist violence may be attempted.”
She has also forecast the Gujarat earthquake of January 2001 nearly a year in advance (The AM., Jan.2000), the earthquakes in Central America, Russia and Central Afghanistan (The AM.,Jan. 2000), the Iran earthquake of 26-12-2003 (The AM., Jan. 2003), the terrorist strike in Beslan in Russia, fall of the Sri Lankan Government, violence against the LTTE leader Prabhakaran (The AM., Jan. 2007), the tsunami of Dec 25, 2004, the droughts in India, monsoons etc., etc.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev’s academic career in physics and mathematics and later on in law from Bangalore University was spotted with distinction and University ranks, but she found the study of astrology irresistible which she took up full time after her college studies.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev was honored by the Sri Lankan President Mrs. Chandrika Kumaratunge on April 21, 2003 with the title Queen of Astrology at a glittering ceremony at the Bandarnaike International Conference Hall at Colombo.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev has authored many books on astrology that include The Art of Understanding Kuja Dosha, The Art of Matching Charts, The Art of Prediction in Astrology, Advanced Principles of Prediction, Clues to Interpreting Charts, Practical Horary Astrology , The Story of Dr.B.V.Raman for Children and How to Judge a Horoscope- Volume II. She has brought out a collection of papers under the title Astrology and the Hoax of ‘Scientific Temper’ in which she endeavours to point out the unscientific stance of scientists against astrology. She has compiled the book Astrology in Predicting Weather and Earthquakes covering Dr. B.V.Raman’s pioneering work in forecasting weather and earthquakes based on the principles of astrology.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev has edited Raman’s New Millennium Fifty (2001-2050) Year Ephemeris. She has also edited Astrology, Vastu and Architecture, a collection of papers presented at the First All India Conference on Vastu held in Bangalore in June 1995 under Dr.Raman’s guidance and leadership in organising which she played a major role.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev was invited by the Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad to present a paper Monsoon Prediction in Astrology at the Workshop-cum-Group Meeting on “Relevance of Ancient Wisdom on Weather Forecasting for Agro-advisories” organised under the advisory of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research on May 29, 2006.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev has conducted workshops at on Jyotisha in Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Pennsylvania, in the United States and also in Germany over the past few years. She was the keynote speaker at the International Conference on Vedic Astrology held by the North West Institute of Vedic Sciences at Lynwood , Washington, in June 2010. She was the first woman to deliver the keynote address at the Third International Symposium on Vedic Astrology in November 1994 at San Rafael, California when she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Council of Vedic Astrology for her contribution to the cause of astrology. She also participated in the Fourth International Symposium held at San Diego in February 1996 as a special invitee. She was the keynote speaker at the Seventh International Symposium held at Sedona, Arizona in January 2000. She was the main speaker at the international conference held in Seattle by the North-west Institute of Vedic Studies in 2014. Gayatri Dev Vasudev has been nominated Woman of the Year-1998 by the American Biographical Institute and the International Woman of the Milennium by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge. The IBC has also included her among the 2000 Outstanding People of the 20th Century. She has also been nominated to receive the Outstanding Speaker Award by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge. Her name figures in the International Who’s Who of Professional and Business Women. She has received innumerable titles from different organisations in appreciation of her work in astrology.
Gayatri Devi Vasudev has addressed several clubs and organisations and participated in seminars and workshops in different places in India and abroad. Gayatri Devi Vasudev is academically focused on astrology and its relevance to modern times. Though her guidance is sought by national and regional political figures, mathadhipatis and celebrities, she is not a professional astrologer and does not undertake consultations.
